While in some cases it is suggested to put heat on your back if you are experiencing pain, this might not be ideal if you are already sweating because it is hot out. Instead, keep an ice pack nearby as needed to give yourself some pain relief. Just be sure that you are not applying the compress directly to your skin as this could lead to damage.

The Pool Might Be Your Best Friend

If you want to exercise outdoors but your back can't handle the jarring from the pavement that you receive with each new step while running, it might be time to head to the local pool (or install your own at home.) Once in the pool, hold onto the side and then move your legs in a circular motion like are riding a bike. You'll be able to get your exercise in with minimal impact to your back. Going for an extended dip in the cool water might also leave your hurting muscles feeling refreshed.
